The function f(x)=x[x] is defined as the greatest integer smaller than or equal to x. find the open intervals in which f(x) is continuous. Where [x] is a greatest integer function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[{ x|x \in Z }\] Interval i don't understand the last sentence does it mean what's x when this function is greatest?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As you have said that [x] is Integer, then you have to replace x with integers. As far as I know, integers can not be continuous, as there is a huge number system which is called Real number system, only in that you can have purely open and close intervals.
