OpenStudy (calculusxy):

The sum of two numbers is x, and one of the other numbers is 10. What is 5 times the other number?

OpenStudy (kainui):

As you read it, write down symbols for everything you can, so when it says "sum" write a plus sign. If it says what something is then put an equals sign, etc. See what you come up with and if that makes sense.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

What I don't get is how the equation given makes sense. The answer states that the correct equation is 5(x-10).

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

say, the two numbers are \(a\) and \(b\) \(a+b = x \) \(a = 10\)
