Curly- For being such a threat to Lennie that George felt the need to kill him quickly before Curly could get to him.

Candy- Because of the mirror of Candy and his dog and George and Lennie, Candy's regret (I shouldn't have let no other guy shoot my dog) made George realize that when it was certain that Curly was going to kill Lennie he should do it before Curly had the chance so he didn't have the same regret.

The Pup- When Lennie killed the pup it gave Curley's wife something to talk to Lennie about, attempt to console him and eventually leads her to let him pet her hair.

Slim- For giving the pup to Lennie so he could be in the barn while everyone else was outside playing horseshoes To meet Curl-...you get the picture
