Jeff has an 8 in. x 10 in. photograph. He creates a copy of the photograph with dimensions 6 in. x 7.5 in. Are Jeff's photographs similar? How so?

OpenStudy (ranga):

The photographs are similar if the same proportion of length to width is maintained.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The side that measured 8 in. became 6 in. The side that measured 10 in. became 7.5 in. If both reductions in size are the same ratio, then the photographs are similar. Is \(\dfrac{8}{6}\) equal to \(\dfrac{10}{7.5} \)?
