What does evaluating expressions mean? (Leave example)
Evaluating an expression means finding the value of the expression for some value of the variable in the expression. (3x + 5) is an expression using the variable x. Evaluate the expression when x = 2. Put x = 2 in (3x + 5) and you get (3)(2) + 5 = 11 So at x =2 we have evaluated the expression and the value is 11. Evaluate the expression when x = -1 Put x = -1 in (3x + 5) and you get (3)(-1) + 5 = 2 So at x = -1 we have evaluated the expression and the value is 2.
