Was the United States justified in going to war with Mexico?

I heard about that war. I think that's when the fight to the death at Alamo took place, wasn't it?

Well, you could say that it wasn't justified (morally wrong) because Polk pretty much forced the war by placing his troops in the disputed border ( Rio Grande / Nueces river). This forced Mexico to open fire on "US territory" and gained the support of the people. Also, Polk pretty much knew that if they fought Mexico, they would win and he'd be able to accomplish his goal of obtaining California
