Which of the following is FALSE regarding standard normal distribution? -The mean is = to 0 -The standard deviation is = to 1 -The variance is = to 1 -the total area under the curve is 1 -97% of the data lies within 3 standard deviations of the mean

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What do you think? 1, 2, and 4 are pretty good. How about 3 and 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

97% of data is pretty reasonable to deviate from the mean so would the incorrect choice be the third?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

We don't normally see the Variance of the Normal Distribution. Most will probably find that strange-sounding. However, that is not it... The "Empirical Rule" is 68-95-99.7, meaning +/- 1 Standard deviation contains close to 68% +/- 2 Standard deviation contains close to 95% +/- 3 Standard deviation contains close to 99.7% No 97s in there!

I see, thanks for the explanation :)
