Help my last question What is the relative maximum and minimum of the function? f(x)= 2x^3 + x^2 – 11x The relative maximum is at (–1.53, 8.3) and the relative minimum is at (1.2, –12.01). The relative maximum is at (–1.53, 12.01) and the relative minimum is at (1.2, –8.3). The relative maximum is at (–1.2, 8.3) and the relative minimum is at (1.53, –12.01). The relative maximum is at (–1.2, 12.01) and the relative minimum is at (1.53, –8.3).

take the derivative, set it equal to zero and solve for \(x\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take what ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this a calculus course, or something else?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its algebra 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then you can't do it without technology http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=+2x^3+%2B+x^2+%E2%80%93+11x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look on the bottom where it says "local max" and "local min" then click on "approximate form" to get the decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so its \[\sqrt{67}/\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you want a decimal because those are your answer choices click on the box that says "approximate form" to get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you should see something like this max{2 x^3+x^2-11 x}~~12.0078 at x~~-1.53089

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so its either A or B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

has be be B because it says The relative maximum is at (–1.53, 12.01)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay i get it now thank you :)
