OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find two numbers (exactly) whose product is 72 and whose sum is 25.

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

Ok. Lets call one number x

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

If the sum of both of them is 25, how would we find the other number?

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

25- minus the number we don't know, or 25-x, right

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

If their product is 72, then we know the first number -x times the second, 25-x, =72, or x(25-x)=72
