I cannot get this right for NOTHING! A rectangle has a length of 9.00 inches and a width of 4.25 inches. What is the area in square inches? Round to the correct significant digits.
Area =length x width = 9 x 4.25 = 38.25 sq inches
To answer this question I have to type out my answer so it's not multiple choice or anything. Here are what my answers have been: 38 36 39 NONE of them have been right. I feel stupid because this question is as simple as rounding. This is my last time to be able to get this problem right. So i'm either thinking it's 35, or i'm supposed to type something like 38 sq in but i'm not positive. please help so I can get this right already.
well yeah it's 38.25 but aren't you supposed to round?
if it is 38.25 you would round to 38
38 was wrong
hm i would try 38 square inches because you cant round 38.25 to anything but 38
is there any specific way to type square inches? because the question says numerical answers are expected
like 38^in idk
yeah that is probably it i would try 38^2 in
wait
38in^2
that would be how you write it
alright i hope so if this ones wrong i am calling my teacher
yeah that is what I would do
ok ima submit it
crap it didn't work i got it wrong
it got rid of the carrot and made my answer 382
this is insane im calling my teacher. thank you for helping though
ok sorry it was wrong did it tell you what the correct answer is
no it didnt but my teacher is working with me to understand it. once i figure out the right answer i;ll share
ok so to determine where i round it to i was supposed to count the significant digits in my multiplication problem (9.00 x 4.25) and find out which group of numbers has the least amount of significant digits. they both have three signifigant digits so my answer has to have 3 digits as well. which would mean i would round it down to 38.2 i think but im not positive my teacher hasn't replied yet
well that sucks i was so close yet so far and if you rounded so there was only three digits the 38.2 would be 38.3 because for rounding numbers 5 and up round the number in front of them up but all numbers less that 5 keep the number in front of them the same
