The above answer is wrong. To estimate the square root of 8 you need to use the two nearest values that when you take the square root of can be simply found. In this case those square root values would be 4 and 9 because when you find the square roots of those values they come out to simple whole numbers 2 and 3. You can then estimate that the square root of 8 lies in between the values 2 and 3.
