OpenStudy (axel.caballero):

What is the factored form of 7x2 + 2x - 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it \[7x ^{2} + 2x - 5?\] or is it 7 * 2 + 2x - 5?

OpenStudy (axel.caballero):

Sorry 7x^2 +2x−5?

OpenStudy (axel.caballero):

What are the steps to solve this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you mean\[7x ^{2}+2x-5\] Then you multiply the coefficent of x^2 and -5 which is 7x-5 = -35. Then you find a pair of numbers which multiply to make -35 and add to make 2 (the coefficent of x). In this case it is 7 and -5 So you split the middle term into\[7x ^{2}+7x-5x-5\] From there you just factor each half into \[7x(x+1) - 5(x+1)\] And finaly you put together the terms to get \[(7x-5)(x+1)\]
