Confused as to what this means ..

Choose one short story and one poem from the 19th century. Write to compare the ways in which each of these may be considered representative of American culture during the time period in which it was written. Cite specific evidence from the literature to support your ideas. I chose ~ The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe ~ How to Tell a Story by Mark Twain

All you have to do is take how the poems were written, and then you have to show the difference between them. You also need to take how the poems were written and show how they were affected by the poems, meaning the emotions that you can tell were put into the poem while it was being written.

Well I understand that part , I just honestly have no idea where to start. This is the only problem I have when I have to do things likes this , I can't figure out where to start .

Sorry for the delay, In my opinion, take the one that you think would be the easiest to understand. For me, that would be The Raven, because I like how EAP writes. He used his deep emotions and poured them into his poems.

I have to use both .. I have to compare them from what I'm understanding .

& I LOVE Poe , My favorite is Masque of the Red Death .
