Compound fractions?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

hartnn (hartnn):

multiply numerator and denominator by 8x what u get ?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

you get 1 + 3/ 1 - 2/8x^2?

hartnn (hartnn):

no... \(\Huge \dfrac{1+3 \times (8x)}{1\times (8x)-2\times 8}\) after multiplying by 8x i get that ^ could you think how ?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

wait what happened to the 8x under the 1 in the numerator? does the 8x cancel that out?

hartnn (hartnn):

yep \(\Huge \dfrac{\dfrac{1}{\cancel {8x}}\times \cancel{8x}+3 \times (8x)}{1\times (8x)-2/ \cancel x\times 8\cancel x}\)

hartnn (hartnn):

now got it ?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

ohh I see okay one second

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

so 1 + (3 * 8x)/ 8x - 2/8?

hartnn (hartnn):

denominator is 8x-2*8 not 2/8

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

Oh, I put 1 over the 8x okay now I get it

hartnn (hartnn):

from which 8 can be factored out, so 8(x-8) so, your final answer is just, (1+24x)/[8(x-8)] thats it! any doubts?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

No doubts! I'm just gonna write it out so I can remember what we did

hartnn (hartnn):

sure :)

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

okay I have a question about the factoring, it's 8(x - 8) right? Or was it supposed to be 8(x - 2) or am I multiplying wrong?

hartnn (hartnn):

oops, i mistyped it, sorry. 8x-2*8 = 8(x-2) :)

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

Mmk I got it then ^_^ Thanks Hartnn!

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^
