PLEASEEEE HELP!!! Two Olympic swimmers, Ryan and Michael, create unique ripple waves in the water. The function created by Ryan is f(x) = 4x2 + 7. The function created by Michael is f(x) = 4x2 - 5x + 3. Describe to Ryan and Michael, using complete sentences, which operation results in the largest degree function and which operation results in the smallest degree function. Show your work to justify your reasoning.

@Hero

hero (hero):

I remember this question. Multiply to get the largest degree function. Divide to get the smallest degree function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply by what though?

hero (hero):

\[(4x^2 - 5x +3)(4x^2 + 7)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to square the parenthesis right?

hero (hero):

\[= 4x^2(4x^2 + 7) -5x(4x^2 + 7) + 3(4x^2 + 7) \\=16x^4 + 28x^2 - 20x^3-35x+12x^2 + 21 \\=16x^4+40x^2-20x^3-35x+21\]

thank you so much!

hero (hero):

You're welcome

hero (hero):

Nevermind, yeah division produces the smallest

hero (hero):

Division produces the smallest because if you divide you end up with just 1 plus a fraction. The quotient produces a degree zero term. If you subtract you end up with -5x - 4. The x represents degree 1.
