if you know that 7 + 2i is a root of a polynomial function ,what is another root of that same function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7+ sqrt of -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its conjugate 7 - 2i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So which is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my ans is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah hes right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K..thanks for the help

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

If you are told that the polynomial has rational coefficients, then any complex roots come in complex conjugate pairs. Since you are given that 7 + 2i is a root, then its complec conjugate, 7 - 2i, is also a root.
