OpenStudy (esshotwired):

Identify one immigrant group in the united states and describe two ways in which that group has impacted that group. Can someone at least give me an example of the immigrant group? I can figure out the rest.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol, seriously though, I have not a clue.

OpenStudy (austinl):

http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/que.gif that is a clue

OpenStudy (tester97):

MAN I HAVE NOT A CLUE SO........JUST DEAL WITH IT http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/kid-deal.gif

OpenStudy (austinl):

take it easy @tester97 @esshotwired Really though, try starting with Hispanics as your first one.

OpenStudy (austinl):

That is not where Americans learned Spanish. Think jobs...

OpenStudy (austinl):

And, how do they impact the jobs of natural born Americans?

OpenStudy (austinl):

Others may say that they take jobs because they are willing to work for less.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

So my two ways can be: 1. 1/4 of immigrants have created jobs in America and some of them are Mexicans 2. mexicans are willing to work for less money Is that good enough?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The part I do not get is the "two ways in which that group has impacted that group." The group impacted the group? Next, every group other than Native Americans is an immigrant.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

@e.mccormick the part is supposed to say "two ways in which that group has impacted the United States"

OpenStudy (austinl):

I am sure it is meant as how has the immigrant group effected our country. And, for the purposes of this question I am also nearly sure that it is referring to the modern landscape of nations.

OpenStudy (austinl):

1 doesn't really apply to hispanics in specific. 2 could work.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

what about any towns that they may have influenced? i don't know any towns but if you do that would be great

OpenStudy (austinl):

Think California. Caucasians are a minority there now.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

i don't know much about california. do you mean that caucasian population is decreasing?

OpenStudy (austinl):

Nope, the Hispanic population has increased enough that Caucasians are now the minority population there.

OpenStudy (austinl):

Anywho, I have to go now. @e.mccormick should be able to help I think. Have a great day.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

do you think i should use caucasians instead of mexicans then?

OpenStudy (austinl):

No.... they aren't an immigrant group. Now I really have to go lol.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

@e.mccormick can you help me now? i am still confused

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, remember that Hispanics were the original settlers of California. Other groups were the later immigrants there. Also, every group has been the minority at some point. Went over all this in a sociology class. So I can answer on basically any group you pick.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

A really good example is Jews. When they came to the USA they were ostracized. Then they took over one part of industry for themselves and changed it drastically. Look into the history of Tin Pan Alley and the particular industry it is part of if you want to know more.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey, hey , hey!!!!

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

I am really confused. Can i ask you some questions that will help me? @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Sure. Ask questions. Pick your minority group is the first thing. Then look for their contributions is the second. So, if you like Hispanics for a group, fine. I was just giving another example. So what part are you having an issue with?

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

Well since I am Greek, i was wanting to do Greeks. first, would a town(s) that they populate majorly be a way they affect the US?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Any people change a location, but they also tend to add to the culture as a whole. For example, My Big Fat Greek Wedding was nominated for an Oscar. There are other examples of Greek culture changing entertainment in the USA. The Gyro has become a huge thing in fast food. On and on, there are little bits and pieces of Greek culture that have leaked into American culture.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

So for one way I could say, the Greek culture has influenced the American culture mostly because of the popular foods, and the Greek entertainment is also influencing America. Is this good? That would be one way, but I would need one more. Also, like I said before, would cities have an influence. For exmaple, Astoria, NY, is heavily populated with Greeks.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Exactly. And then you give examples of how this has contributed to these things. Some may be good some bad. But all are things people bring to the DAC (Dominant American Culture) and change it with. When people make a community that is separate, it is both good and bad. It is good because it gives them a safe place to express their culture. It is bad if it leads to racial tensions.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

For my second way would this work?? Greeks have been spreading throughout the states. They originate mainly in Astoria, NY, but can be found anywhere. Greek festivals are a big hit everywhere too. People go to Greek festivals, and they are influenced by the culture found there and the food. Am i missing anything or do I need to add anything?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

It looks pretty decent. Put it all together and make sure it sounds good side by side. As in that one point leads to the other. Which point is first might make it easier to go to the second.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

Would the second way make sense to put first?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Try it both ways and read them and see which sounds better.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

Thank you so much! I hope I didn't waste your day. I have to post another question up soon. If you are not doing anything, could you help me? If not, I totally understand, and I will worry about it tomorrow. Thanks again.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

np. Have fun.

OpenStudy (esshotwired):

You too. I tagged in my other question just so you can find it easier.
