What is the relationship between ATP and ADP?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ADP is the used-up, uncharged form of ATP. It only has 2 phosphate groups attached to it, compared to the charged up energy carrier, ATP, that has 3 phosphate groups. ADP gains its third phosphate during cellular respiration to become ATP, and ATP becomes ADP again when it releases energy. It's really pretty simple, but I think Hank Green says it better: https://www.khanacademy.org/partner-content/crash-course1/crash-course-biology/v/crash-course-biology-107
