HELP PLZZZ!! Aside from religious freedom, why did the English establish colonies in the Americas? Include three examples: one from the new England colonies, one from the middle colonies and one from the Southern colonies.

They wanted to spread their own religion

Colonies were money making oppourtunities first and foremost. The Spanish were taking tons of gold and silver from the Americas. The British wanted some of that. North America was away from Spanish and Portugese settlements and those powerful navies that could easily wiped out British colonies. The investors who sent people to Jamestown were hoping to find gold but settled for tobacco and making money off of that addiction. Massachusetts was first settled by a group headed for Virginia. They had the same reasons as the Jamestown bunch. They just didn't have the best navigator and ended up north of Virginia. The Puritans came later . King Charles wanted his own revenue source so he established the Carolina colonies which were named after him. This tobacco plant imported from South America did very well in those colonies. Oglethope thought maybe he could get George to give him some tobacco land. He sold the idea by offering an answer to prison over crowding in England. Use prisoners as the settlers!
