Planes a and d are two distinct planes that intersect at line w. Line x is drawn perpendicular to plane d. Which of the following statements is always true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. Plane a must be perpendicular to plane d. B. Line x is not perpendicular to plane a C. Line x must be perpendicular to line w. D. Line x is perpendicular to plane a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Lena772 or @hero can you help?

OpenStudy (ranga):

Line x is perpendicular to plane d. Line w lies on plane d. Therefore, we can conclude ....?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk i wanna say either A or C? i know forsure it isnt D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ranga ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait wait wait nvm i say its either B or C

OpenStudy (ranga):

A cannot ALWAYS be true. In the diagram shown it certainly is not true.

OpenStudy (ranga):

You can visualize it this way. Take the flat surface of your desk (plane d) and place a pencil standing up on it (line x). Then draw any straight line on your desk anywhere. Won't the pencil always be perpendicular to thet line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.

OpenStudy (ranga):

And here the line w is on plane d. Since x is perpendicular to plane d it must also be perpendicular to line w always.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok that makes sense. thanks(: think you could help with some other questions? just 2 or 3 more? i have them done i just need to know if they are right or not.

OpenStudy (ranga):

Let us try one more.
