A 1 ounce mouse takes about 16 times as many breaths as does a 3 ton elephant, if the two animals take a combined total of 170 breaths per minute, how many breaths each animal takes during that period of time?

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

Let m be the number of breaths that the mouse takes in a minute, and e be the number of breaths that the elephant takes in a minute. We can make the system: m = 16e m + e = 170
