why did mendel use purebred plants in his experiment

So that he could have accurate results. By using pure-bred pea plants he had a plant that he already knew the growth rate of and what they would look like. If he used a hybrid the results would have been inaccurate thanks to whatever other breed was within the genetic makeup of the plant.
