Ah, I think it reflected the Byzantine Empire, but I only tapped on the Empire in the 7th grade, sorry for being so incapable of the answer!

Their art/architecture was influenced by the Persians and Egyptians.. a lot of frescoes and mosaics, but mostly a blend of Greco-Roman and Persian culture.
