Why does manganese and technetium show anomalous melting point?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is there a dip in the mp of Mn and Tc?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is crystal field splitting diagram?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

just know that it's due to the half-filled d-orbitals. Don't worry about crystal field diagram. Look at your periodic table, Mn is right above Tc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why doesnt Rhenium show this dip like Mn and Tc?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Because Rh not only has d-orbital, but now has f-orbital electrons in it's sub-shell, making things more complicated.
