So King John was one of the worst kings England had.. he imposed taxes to finance his wars, he arrested his nobles and hanged them without trial.. this led to people rebelling against him and that's where the Magna Carta comes from. They forced King John to sign the Magna Carta. It was a document that stated even the king had to rule within limits of the law, so he didn't have as much control anymore. The Magna Carta protected the rights of people living under a king. Hope this helps.
