Solve the following proportion for y y/4 = 13/7 round your answer to the nearest tenth

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cross-multiply, you get 7y = 52 Divide both sides by 7, you get y = 52/7 or 7.4 to the nearest tenth.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Have you considered simply multiplying by 4?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Note: "Cross-multiply" is utterly silly generally, but particularly so in this application. Why in the name of reason would you multiply by 7 just to divide by 7 and put it back where it was?! Absolutely senseless. Note: I blame books and teachers, not those who use "cross-multiply".
