list out the prime factorization of each number 25: 5*5 40: 2*2*2*5 Then notice how we have two basic prime factors: 2 and 5 The 2's occur 3 times, and the 5's occur twice, so multiply these occurrences to get 2*2*2*5*5 = 8*25 = 200 therefore, the LCM is 200
