Explain whether the following sentences have a neutral tone. (Hint: look for positive and negative connotation words that will make the sentence positive or negative instead of neutral) Unable to attend school, he kept up his education by using a local library. @brianna98bri , @austinL (: Please help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, that is a neutral tone, because it doesnt show an emotion towards it, like he isnt excited or upset about it .

OpenStudy (austinl):

That is a simple statement, and it is lacking in emotional contexts. I would say that it is neutral. However, the spoken word can change it through inflection.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's positive tone , because even though he was unable to attend school he hept his education by going to a local library. Am I correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it could be positive, because he isnt finding any negative in it, he found the alternatives to keeping his grades up, i would say positive although im not 100% sure

OpenStudy (austinl):

Well think of it like this, does this statement seem to have any negative connotations? Does it have any positive connotations? Think back to what I wrote in chat. "neutral using tone, your responses are generally unexpressive and tempered." With your given sentence, does it have any expressiveness? Does it seem to be very calm. It is simply a statement of fact.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's negative tone ?

OpenStudy (austinl):

Does it seem negative to you at all?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No ha ._.

OpenStudy (austinl):

Does it have an obvious positive tone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes , because he is still getting an education .

OpenStudy (austinl):

Positive tone: "When using positive tone, your responses are generally friendly, personable and nonthreatening. se positive tone when you deliver good news or any information NOT LIKELY to get a negative emotional response from the reader. It is perfectly acceptable to say, "We are pleased to inform you that your bank received a 1 rating." "
