Solve and check 1<3x+2 < 12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1/3<x<10/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we want to isolate the x. Subtract 2 from all sides of the inequality, so you get -1 < 3x < 10 Now you want to divide all sides of the inequality by 3 (to isolate x), you get -1/3 < x < 10/3 as your final answer.

But how do I check the solution? That's what I'm wondering.

pick a number from interval (-1/3, 10/3) and plug in into 3x+2 for example pick 0 so you have 3*0+2=2 which satisfy the condition 1<2<12 or pick up 3 so you have 3*3+2=11 which also satisfy the constraints 1<11<12 that are check ups
