The Crusades were fought to defend the Byzantine Empire against Seljuk Turks..the Turks threatened the Byzantines, so they asked the West for help and the Pope decided to help defend the Byzantines and fight off the Turks. So crusaders joined up to fight Turks and most important, the Crusades were mainly a war to take back the Holy Land from Muslim Turks. Christians, Jews, and Muslims all considered Palestine to be the holiest city in their religions, so it was a lot to do about recovering the Holy Land from the Turks that took over. King John was one of England's worst kings, he imposed taxes to finance his wars, he arrested his nobles and hanged some of them without cause, caused a lot of anger, etc. So the people formed a rebellion and forced him to sign the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta was a document that stated even the king had to rule within limits of the law, so he didn't have as much control as he used to. The Magna Carta changed people's views on justice and government.. and helped base modern government. Hope that helps. : )
