Angles 3 and 8 are two interior angles on the same side of the transversal. Whenever you have two interior angles on the same side of the transversal, their sum is 180 degrees. Therefore, if you look at the diagram, angles 5 and 4 are also totaling 180 degrees. Or we could say they are supplementary angles (2 angles whose sum is 180 degrees).
