lecture 2 what is mole ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is a dozen? It is 12 eggs or donuts etc.. But 12 atoms would be very, very few. So the number 6.02 * 10^23 has been chosen as the standard quantity of atoms or molecules. It is called a "mole". Originally it came from the number of particles in 22.4 liters of a gas at STP (standard temperature and pressure). It is the number of atoms in 1 gram of atomic Hydrogen or 2 times that number in 2 grams of molecular hydrogen. I hope this helps.
