plz help gold medal will be awarded. write the equation of the line that is perpendicular to the line y=2x+2 and passes through the point (6,3)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Do you know how to find a perpendicular slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I mean a slope of a line perpendicular to...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

show me all the steps to answer plz

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

slope of a line is a, you need to find the slope of a line perpendicular to that. you take a multiplicative inverse of a, or 1/a and flip it's sign if it was negative it becomes positive and if it was positive it becomes negative. Can you find the slope of a perpendicular line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um -1/2?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yes!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat next

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So is the perpendicular line passing through (6,3), right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I would suggest to graph the line first |dw:1382730307469:dw|

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I plugged -1, 0 and 1 for x to graph it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok
