(x - 2) (x + 7) = 0 Multiply the two sides 2x - 14 = 0 Now, add 14 to both sides, and you have: 2x = 14 Divide both sides by 2: x = 7 Hope that helps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2+5x-14 =0 (x+7)(x-2) = 0 x+7 = 0 x-2 = 0 x = (-7) x = 2 x = (-7, 2)
