n the 1800s, sectionalism was demonstrated in economic terms and the terms of slavery. The states in the North did not own slaves, and a lot of industry was beginning to take shape there, so the population was becoming more rural. Meanwhile, the South was primarily agrarian (farming) and did have slaves. This situation eventually resulted in the Civil War.
