Divide using synthetic division, and write a summary statement in fraction form. 2x^3-3x^2-5x+4/x-2

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so do you know how to do synthetic division?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Roughly

I start to get confused

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, we grab the coefficients of the dividend first and stick them on the right-hand side the divisor goes to the left-hand side and then we drop the 1st coefficient down then we multiply the divisor by the "dropped coefficient" and our product goes below the next term notice that our divisor is x - 2, so x - 2 = 0, or x = 2 so we'll be using +2 \(\begin{array}{rrrrrr} 2&|&2&-3&-5&4\\ &|&&4\\ \hline\\ &|&2 \end{array}\)
