There are 9 blue marbles, 4 green marbles, 6 white marbles, 1 red marble, and 8 yellow marbles to choose from. What is the sample space? A. 28^P28 B. 28^C28 C. 28 D. 1,728

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@texaschic101 please help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I am not 100% sure. but I think the sample space is 28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@texaschic101 I think the sample space is the set of all possible outcomes; 28 is the sample size...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would 28 be our answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I had thought the sample space would be the colors of the marbles; literally {blue, green, white, red, yellow} but that's not an option.... :/

OpenStudy (zarkon):

what is the experiment?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are 9 blue marbles, 4 green marbles, 6 white marbles, 1 red marble, and 8 yellow marbles to choose from. What is the sample space? A. 28^P28 B. 28^C28 C. 28 D. 1,728 Im not sure how to find my answer, i wanna be sure, so next time i run into a problem like this, i know what to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not saying any of you are wrong, just wanna be sure:)

OpenStudy (zarkon):

the sample space is set of all possible outcomes from a probability experiment. If you don't have an experiment you don't have a sample space

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so basically that would make 28 our answer than correct?

OpenStudy (zarkon):

I'd ask whomever wrote the question to clarify what the experiment is

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I just figured that there were 28 marbles, so the sample space is 28. But I am not sure

OpenStudy (zarkon):

are you just selecting one?

OpenStudy (zarkon):

if so that should be in the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im selecting 28 as my answer. is that correct?

OpenStudy (zarkon):

none of those are the sample space...those are just numbers...aren't you picking colored marbles?

OpenStudy (zarkon):

one of those might be the size of the sample space (if you actually had an experiment)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is all it gives me: There are 9 blue marbles, 4 green marbles, 6 white marbles, 1 red marble, and 8 yellow marbles to choose from. What is the sample space? A. 28^P28 B. 28^C28 C. 28 D. 1,728

OpenStudy (zarkon):

then the person that wrote it doesn't know what they are talking about

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my school lol, thats why I posted it, cause I dont get it lol

OpenStudy (zarkon):

you shouldn't ...since it makes no sence

OpenStudy (zarkon):

if you picked a marble at random then the sample space would consist of colored marbles (not numbers)...since marbles are what you are picking
