The amendment that ended slavery in the US was the the 13th amendment.

Amendment 13 - Slavery Abolished. Ratified 12/6/1865. History 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. It ended because it was an abomination for men to hold other men in slavery in a country dedicated to the individual freedoms of all people.
