Think about it, sensory details appeal to your senses. Sensory details make writing more interesting and help people be transported into the story. If you were writing about the first time you baked a pie, you could descried it. Such as;

As I took the pie out of the oven, I could smell the apples with a hint of cinnamon, just like how Grandma used to make it. The aroma filled the room with and warmed my heart as I made the first cut.

With that example, people will smell apples with cinnamon, and think of how their grandma made pies.

Sensory details enrich and add to your writing. It helps the readers paint a more vivd picture in their minds, and helps appeal or disgust to reader more (depends on what mood you're trying to write)

Ex: The girl smiled sadly, gazing out to the salty sea where her father had suddenly disappeared one day too. SHe knew he wasn't coming back but her heart longed painfully for him to come back and help her sickly mother. She pushed off the short grass that tickled her leg to go back to work, dreaming would get her nowhere.
