the domain of y=1/x+8-1 is all real number except x=-1. true or false?

OpenStudy (ranga):

Does the function look like this \[\Large y = \frac{ 1 }{ x + 8} - 1\]? OR

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (ranga):

\[\Large y = \frac{ 1 }{ x } + 8 - 1\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first one

OpenStudy (ranga):

The denominator cannot go to zero because you cannot divide by 0. So (x + 8) should not go to 0. That means x should not be -8. So the domain is all real numbers except x = -8.

thank you!
