There is no war in Ba Sing Se.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

My Function:X^3-6x^2+7x-98=f(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well if that is the graph of the function and these are the offered functions to that graph the simplest reason is that when x=0, that is the y intercept and the other functions dont intercept at -98

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Well it needs to have a y intercept of -100, which means the constant term at the end must be -100 (or at least close to, idk if it's exactly 100)

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

But getting a full equation from that graph ALONE seems incredibly difficult with no other information given, and the graph not being very clear.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but this is for an amusement park and if the coaster is being made from the functions they all seem like fun functions to ride.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

haha good point

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

lol let's get to the point xP

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

ok so I did post the function of that graph though

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

this is his sis talking btw

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Idk what you need to answer exactly. I strongly doubt you need to find the equation of the function, because... it'd be very difficult with algebra 2 skills and only the given graph, i think. These other suggestions are invalid because ... because they will not intersect the y-axis at -100.

OpenStudy (ranga):

Davidjohn and agent0smith have answered the question already. "One has suggested g(x) = x3 – 2x2+ 4x – 8, and the other has suggested h(x) = x3 + 5x2 – 8x – 48" Put x = 0 in g(x) and you get g(0) = -8 Put x = 0 in h(x) and you get h(0) = -48 But the graph shows the function intersects the y-axis at -100. So the g(x) and h(x) does not represent the function shown in the graph. That is all you have to answer for this problem.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

^yep, and trying to actually come up with the function would be tedious. You'd have a very hard time finding the coefficients of ax^3 + bx^2 + cx, you only know the constant is -100. Calculus would help since you can find the min and max.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

no it's ok i dont think I need to solve it just why it's invalid
