How come messages that you receive can be deleted but sent messages cannot?

I have a friend who has a problem with it, so i decided to post it. Just curious to know on why sent messages cannot be deleted?

The same reason why sent e-mails cannot be deleted. 
once you sent it, it reaches its destination. so even if you had a choice of deleting it on your side, it will be still there with the person you sent it.

Just tell you @hartnn  , I can deleted some of sent mssgs about a month ago or more. 
So what happen?

still the message will be on openstudy server.
this is public site , whatever is posted/sent as messaged, it will stay on OS server forever.

makes sense, but how come message that you receive is allowed to be deleted but not sent? If you think that the server has everything saved in it, why allowing receiving messaged be deleted but not sent messages?

received messages can be inappropriate , a user may not want to see inappropriate messages.
there's no use in give delete sent message featire..

If I can deleted sent mssgs about two months ago,but now I cant, its weird. Or may be I should waiting a month later to deleted it? :/

Anything on the internet, once it's sent.. It's out there, Just saying. It can not be removed. Even if both users happened to delete the message, file, or whatever the case may be, you can not remove it COMPLETELY. This is mostly what everyone uses on websites.. Mostly because if someone was threatening someone illegally, the police would have to contact the website owner to get the transcript of the entire message.

though i never scrolled down my messages for more than a day....even that took like more than 5 minutes....i get so many messages ::()

If anything, there should be a delete all button for all the messages.. Hah. So it speeds up the process a bit more..
