1. which set of ordered pairs in the form of (x,y) does not represent function of x? -(0,2), (1,-1),(2,3),(3,-2) -(0,-2),(1,1),(2,3),(3,-2) -(0,2),(-1,-1),(2,-3),(3,2) -(0,2)(1,2)(1,-2)(3,2) 3.what is f(-5) if f(x)=2x-1+10 -21 -19 --1 --21 5.what is an equation of the line slope-intercept form? -y=4x+3 -y=-3x+4 -y=4x+3 -y=3x+4

OpenStudy (jack1):

wait... where's question 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not on there cause it was a picture question and i didnt wanna get confused on the questions.

OpenStudy (jack1):

ok, well for Q1: definition of "a function" is there is no more than one y-value output for any given x-value input so look through your pairs find one that has the same x value twice check if it has a different y value if it does, Boom, not a function!

OpenStudy (jack1):

eg: pairs of line one: -(0,2), (1,-1),(2,3),(3,-2) x values are 0, 1, 2 and 3 x values not repeated so assume its a function

OpenStudy (jack1):

following ok? @miss.roy ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (jack1):

cool, so which isn't a function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the 2ed one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ehter that one or the 3ed one.

OpenStudy (jack1):

...ok, why?

OpenStudy (jack1):

what are the x values of the 2nd line?

OpenStudy (jack1):

g2g, hill sprints, can u finish this off @Yttrium ?

OpenStudy (yttrium):

Let's see.

OpenStudy (yttrium):

So what do you think is the answer here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its b

OpenStudy (yttrium):

Whoops. Why?

OpenStudy (yttrium):

The value of x there didn't repeat. So automatically that is not the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so i just did it C?

OpenStudy (yttrium):

Still it didn't repeat. See x = 0, -1, 2, 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so D because they have all the same y value

OpenStudy (yttrium):

Yeah. And value of x repeat at 1. It's a many-to-many function, which is not plausible.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so D?

OpenStudy (yttrium):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright what about 2?

OpenStudy (yttrium):

It's easy. Just plug in -5 for every x in f(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so f(-5)=2(-5)-1+10

OpenStudy (yttrium):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so after that do what

OpenStudy (yttrium):

Evaluate. So that you will arrive at an answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so im confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you subtract?

OpenStudy (yttrium):

2(-5)-1+10 Apply PEMDAS. Parenthesis Exponents Multiplication/Division Addition/Subtraction

OpenStudy (yttrium):

We have parenthesis, right? So we will evaluate it 1st. -10-1+10 -11+10 ???

OpenStudy (yttrium):

You get it now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kinda

OpenStudy (yttrium):

Just tell me where you get confused.
