Which choice below best restates this long sentence from “The Fall of the House of Usher”? Feeble beams of encrimsoned light made their way through the trellised panes, and served to render sufficiently distinct the more prominent objects around; the eye, however, struggled in vain to reach the remoter angles of the chamber or the recesses of the vaulted and fretted ceiling.
these are the choice A. Not enough light came through the windowpanes, and I had trouble seeing even the larger objects in the room. B. The light that came through the windows was so dim that it made everything in the room seem shadowy. C. The dim light coming through the windows lit up the larger objects, but my eye could not see anything in the corners of the room. D. The reddish light coming through the windows helped my eyes focus on everything in the room.
Which one do you think it is?
i thought B
Think about the similarities between C and what Poe wrote and let me know what you think. Just a few words.
so the answer is c instead of b i get it now
I think that the best section for this question is http://openstudy.com/study#/groups/Literature glad that you guys are learning though....
Forget about the answer. Let's just think this through.
@avountae2003, have you read this book?
Thanks, CABI_J Isn't this the only way you really learn something with others? Talking about it?
served to render sufficiently distinct the more prominent objects =The dim light coming through the windows lit up the larger objects right
What you want to be able to do is to think through a conundrum like this and reason it out. Once you do that, you're good to go. You can have more confidence that you can justify your answer.
yep, @DonaldRoyMiller, talk about it, making the person who needs help figure out the answer, rather than just take the medal and go.
@GABI_J yes i have read as much as my school wanted me to read
so, you have not read the entire book
Yes. avountae. Those seem like the most similar. Know what I mean?
@DonaldRoyMiller yes i understand now thank you for your help maybe i was just reading to fast making it harder than it really was
Do you remember everything that happened before in the story? @avountae2003, try to analyze reading through bit by bit, FOR EXAMPLE what do you think the "Feeble beams of encrimsoned light made their way through the trellised panes, " tells you about the setting of the story at that point?
GABI, When I'm helping someone else out, I also learn some things myself. I have to think about something to be able to explain it.
GABI, I think the idea is to help the other person reason it out, not to grill them, like you seem to be doing.
@DonaldRoyMiller, yes. I am making her, or both of you, or all 3 of us., Whatever it is, think how to analyze this paragraph to get the exact picture of the settings.....
Gabi, I think you might be trying too hard. Relax.
DonaldRoyMiller, well if she understood and needs no help, then you are right.
