Your opinion! What's the pint of Historical fiction? Is there any point in it?
I think that really there is no point in historical fiction, I think reading history textbook is better. To teach some sort of a lesson, you don't need to make up details that never took place, either a complete make up, or absolute truth... I think historical fiction, is just for people who aren't creative enough to make their own plot, so they add details to a real event/story.
I think that the historical fiction genre was made to try to get more people curious about history and hopefully research the topic of their interest more. I don't think it really worked out that way though. I personally read anything that catches my interest. Although I have been on a non-fiction phase for the past two years and its been hard to read fictional books lately. On another note, I personally think alternative history is a bit more weird.
"I think historical fiction, is just for people who aren't creative enough to make their own plot, so they add details to a real event/story" I am not trying to debate/argue, but your last sentence caught my attention, i believe people who create historical fiction are creative due that they use fictional characters or events to plot more to the history as a sequence to feel emotions, the setting and place . non-fictional history is actually non creative due that the events, people, time are actually sticking to what really happened without adding further devices. In my opinion, I do enjoy both fiction and non-fiction, Both historical do tell a story that happened (for fictional, the author would use something of actual context to give the reader a piece of history that they must be aware of), sometimes it's better the real one because of the emotions that you get attached after reading atrocious, spectacular, melancholic, joyful events that actually happened and how the people reacted to it. However, there are moments where it doesn't catch you at first, and those are the moments where authors and creative people use their mind to come up with an act that catch you at the first moment (novels,books,movies,shows,etc..) and that just keeps you intrigued to find out more about the real history behind the historical fiction. As a kid, i wasn't interested in history at all;however, my teacher tried a method of hers which was to rent a animated series of u.s events that actually kept us quiet and focus on the series (didn't matter the characters weren't real but it made difference to the way we saw the events taken place and how it would later on, affect history further..) after the series was over, we would just go back to read book to connect both fictional and non fictional ideas for a better understanding and that's what kept me hooked with history.
It can change the story being told. A change in time is also very much similar to a change in place (or even more). And it's fun to think "What if?".
