x^2+9x+11=7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what methods do you know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Factoring Quadratic Formula Completing the square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

factoring & quadratic formula. I used quadratic formula & got 32.5 & -41.5. @CrazyCountryGirl , how'd you get -0.4689 & -8.531?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@queen_, subtract 7 from both sides (When you do a quadratic formula or factoring you have to set the equation equal to zero first)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, a should be 1, b = 9 & c = 4 if i subtract 7 from both sides? @GABI_J

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first right the equation after subtracting 7 from both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2+9x+4=0, after you subtract 7 from both sides. @GABI_J @CrazyCountryGirl , Haha, its ok! Lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(yes you are right...)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you wouldn't want to factor, b/c you won't get 9x... so completing the square or quadratic formula.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k, so now i use the quadratic formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plug in numbers into the quadratic formula but first give me the a= b= c=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as you said b/f a=1 b=9 c=4 correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yesuhhhhh! correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got... -4.5 and 37, so -4.5+37=32.5 and -4.5-37=-41.5. Correct? no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait no!!!!!!!!!!! -4.5 and 18.5, so -4.5+18.5=14 and -4.5-18.5=-23

|dw:1382930086812:dw| that's a better way to write your answer, it is exact, as opposed to using exponents of the square root....
