so A!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On the PSAT is shows that E is the correct one and IDK why.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A makes sense normally so I don't understand why A is wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Huh I have no idea, that doesn't make sense! I would go with A if it were me...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know, thats why I want to know why its like that.

I found this from the college board: Mathematics Question 22 Choice (A) is correct. The diameter of a circle is the longest line segment between two points on the circle. Hence if C is the smallest circle that passes through both P and Q, then the segment PQ must be a diameter of C. Therefore, the smallest circle that passes through points P and Q must have diameter 20 and radius 10. Choice (B) is not correct. Let O be the midpoint of segment PQ. Then the circle with center O and radius 10 passes through both P and Q. Therefore, 15 cannot be the radius of the smallest circle that passes through both P and Q. Choice (C) is not correct. The diameter of the smallest circle that passes through both P and Q is 20, but the question asks for the radius of this circle, which is 10. Choice (D) is not correct. Let O be the midpoint of segment PQ. Then the circle with center O and radius 10 passes through both P and Q. Therefore, 10 3 cannot be the radius of the smallest circle that passes through both P and Q. Choice (E) is not correct. Let O be the midpoint of segment PQ. Then the circle with center O and radius 10 passes through both P and Q. Therefore, 20 3 cannot be the radius of the smallest circle that passes through both P and Q. http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/psat/math-section4-2013.pdf
