Find X 25^x = 1/5

hartnn (hartnn):

note that 25 = 5^2 and 1/5 = 5^-1 now just compare the exponents...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry do not understand

hartnn (hartnn):

25 =5^2 this you know ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

s

hartnn (hartnn):

1/5 = 5^-1 this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so, 0.2

hartnn (hartnn):

25^x = 1/5 5^(2x) = 5^-1 comparing the exponents 2x = -1 got this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would be x x=-0.5

hartnn (hartnn):

correct x = -1/2 or -0.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would you use the same formula for all sort of questions.

hartnn (hartnn):

same type of formula....ofcourse, numbers will change...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i sec, so how would you do, 81^1/2 = 3^x

hartnn (hartnn):

81 = 9^2

hartnn (hartnn):

81 = 3^4

hartnn (hartnn):

3^4^1/2 = 3^x so, 3^2=3^x x=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am very confused
