Which characteristic of minerals is represented in this picture? A. fracture B. hardness C. cleavage D. streak Here's the link http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/713500_714000/713606/1/1c68678250ed5d2a9f0acf482a4c8c063b82f991/MS2_ERT_02_10_assess_clevage.jpg

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Hmmm... not geology section... but they don't have one. Streak is what you get when you scratch it on something else. Hardness is when you use something to test it. That leaves fracture and cleavage. Know what those are?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That still doesnt answer my question:(

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, do you know what fracture and cleavage are in geology?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im confused about it though

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

When you brake a mineral, any mineral, it is going to tent to do one of two things. Break on clean lines or follow curves. The clean lines make nice shapes. The curves make odd lumps. So, which of those is the picture showing? Nice shapes or odd lumps?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nice shape?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Exactly! And which is nice shapes? Cleavage or fracture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cleavage?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i right?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

YEP! Fracture is also called Concoidal Fracture, so curved fractures.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay thanks
