Well, let's act like your country is the United States.

-We have 3 branches of government
-A president
-A vice president
-A Senate
-A House of Representatives

Our government is called a democracy, but we have a separation of powers, called checks and balances. The three branches are Legislative, Executive, Judicial

The Senate and House of Representatives make bills and laws to be passed to the President. The President can either pass it or veto it. In the Senate and House, there must be a 2/3 vote to pass the bill or law. When there is a tie in the Senate, the Vice President breaks the tie by placing the last vote.

The President looks out after the country, but can always be over rules by a certain branch. Like the game called Rock, paper, scissors. The rock beats the scissors, but loses to the paper. In return, the Paper can win against the rock, but loses to the scissors. Finally, the scissors beat paper, but lose to the rock.
